Premium Cigar Imports Continue to Rise

Premium cigar imports continue to rise and outpace 2021.  Year-to-date through August, estimated premium cigar imports amounted to 307 million cigars. This was a 4.3% increase from the same period of time in 2021. There are eight main supplier countries that export premium cigars to the US. For the first eight months in August, the one main supplier country that showed a significant increase from 2021 was Nicaragua with almost a 9% increase (13.5 million cigars) year-to-date.

At the same time, the two main mass-market large cigar import categories showed a decrease of almost 15% year-over-year as of August 31, 2022.
