Honduras Sees 3% Decline in Premium Large Cigar Imports in 2024

Premium large cigar imports from Honduras fell to 67.4 million units in 2024 — a 3.3% drop from the prior year, down by 2.3 million cigars.

Though the year-end decline is less steep than earlier in 2024, Honduras continues a gradual downward trend in premium shipments to the U.S.

Dominican Republic Holds Steady in Premium Large Cigar Exports to the U.S.

In 2024, premium cigar imports from the Dominican Republic totaled 106 million units — a slight 1.8% decline from 2023’s 107.9 million.

This modest drop may reflect a late-year shift in imports toward more mass-market products under alternate HTS codes, while premium demand cooled slightly.�Still, the Dominican Republic remains a key pillar of the U.S. premium cigar supply chain.�

Nicaragua Gains Ground in 2024 with Continued Growth in Premium Imports

Premium large cigar imports from Nicaragua rose to 253 million units in 2024 — a 2.7% year-over-year increase, adding nearly 6.8 million cigars. Nicaragua remains the dominant supplier to the U.S. market, continuing its consistent trend of reliable growth and market leadership year after year.

As global sourcing patterns evolve, Nicaragua's steady performance underscores its central role in the premium cigar landscape.

Premium large cigar imports held the line in 2024, ending the year at 430 million units — a modest 1% increase over 2023.�

This stability follows a dramatic 26% surge during the pandemic in 2021, a slight gain in 2022, an 8% drop in 2023, and now a leveling off.� Despite yearly fluctuations, the market has remained strong, averaging just over 400 million units annually over the past seven years.�
