Utah Legalizes Online Cigar Sales
With the stroke of a pen, Utah became the most recent state to legalize online cigar sales. House Bill 447 was signed into law March 23, opening one of the last closed markets in the United States.
The new law allows remote retail sales of cigars and pipe tobacco. It also establishes a regulatory framework for remote sellers, including licensing requirements and third-party age verification. The law takes effect on January 1, 2027.
After multiple legislative sessions and continued CAA engagement with policymakers, this year culminated in success. CAA guided the legislation across the finish line through the dedicated efforts of its team on the ground in Utah.
With Utah now open for both retail and now online sales, Hawaii remains the only state that continues to prohibit online cigar sales.
