Cigar Association of America Announces Leadership Transition
Terry Gallagher, Jr. Elected Chairman, Succeeding Javier Estades

Washington, D.C. – December 5, 2025 – The Cigar Association of America (CAA) today announced that its Board of Directors has elected Terry Gallagher, Jr. as the association’s new Chairman, effective immediately.

Gallagher, Jr., President of Smoker Friendly tobacco outlets, is a respected industry executive with decades of experience across the premium cigar and tobacco sectors. He assumes the chairmanship at a pivotal time for the association as it advances its advocacy, regulatory, and industry-support missions in Washington and across the country.

“Javier’s leadership, vision, and steady hand have strengthened CAA and helped unite the industry through years of significant change,” said Gallagher, Jr. “I’m honored to follow in his footsteps and look forward to working closely with our members as we continue protecting and promoting the interests of the entire cigar industry.”

During Estades’ tenure, CAA advanced major federal and state advocacy efforts, deepened its engagement with policymakers, and strengthened its role as a leading national voice on tobacco issues. He will continue to serve as a valued member of the Board.

“On behalf of the entire cigar industry, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Javier Estades for his extraordinary leadership, wisdom, and unwavering dedication over the past nine years,” said CAA President Scott Pearce. “Javier leaves the association stronger, more focused, and better positioned to protect and promote the cigar industry.”

The CAA Board also elected the following officers for the coming term:

  • Vice Chair: Eric Newman, J.C. Newman Cigar Company
  • Treasurer: Carrie Freed, ITG Brands
  • Secretary: Henry Roemer, PT DJARUM

“I am excited to work alongside this talented and experienced leadership team,” added Gallagher, Jr. “Together, we will continue advocating for reasonable, cigar-specific regulation, defending the rights of adult consumers, and ensuring the rich heritage of premium cigars endures for future generations.”

Javier Estades commented, “It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve as Chairman of the Cigar Association of America. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together and have complete confidence in Terry Gallagher, Jr. and the new officers to work with our President, Scott Pearce, to lead CAA forward with strength and vision.” The Cigar Association of America remains the unified voice of the cigar industry in Washington and beyond.
