2025 Market Highlights: U.S. Cigar Sales Approach 10 Billion Units

Total U.S. cigar consumption in 2025 is estimated at approximately 9.9 billion cigars, reflecting a modest decline from 2024 as the market continues to normalize following the pandemic surge.

The year-over-year decline reflects softer demand across mass-market cigars, consistent with trends seen in both import and domestic production data. At the same time, the overall market remains substantial, with total consumption still approaching 10 billion cigars annually.

Large cigars continue to dominate total consumption, accounting for the vast majority of volume. Within that category, approximately 460 million cigars are premium, while the remaining volume consists primarily of mass-market products.

The composition of the market continues to shift. Lower-priced cigars are declining, while premium cigars are holding steady, reinforcing a broader trend toward higher-value products and more stable demand.

Taken together, the 2025 data point to an industry that is smaller in volume than its recent peak, but more balanced and increasingly driven by product mix rather than sheer scale.
